Our trip took us south of Cancun to a place called Xpu-Ha which has a large beautiful bay, a calm ocean and superb underwater visibility. The seven separate entrances which lead to this small community of hotels, restaurants and dive shops are all dirt roads. Towards the north is the Xpu-Ha lagoon  where, it is said, the endagered species of manatee can still be found. Toward the west is Chichen-Itza where you can find 1000 year old Mayan ruins.
